Make any PDF, photo or scan small enough to upload. Pick a target such as 100 KB or 200 KB and every file is compressed to fit, from several MB down to a few KB. Files already under the limit are left as they are, and nothing is uploaded.

Compress any file to 100 KB, 200 KB or 1 MB

Schools, offices, job portals and government websites all set upload limits, and the files people need to send, such as scanned certificates, ID cards, mark sheets, application forms and phone photos, are usually far too big. The File Compressor shrinks PDFs and images from several MB down to the exact limit you need: pick 20 KB, 50 KB, 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB or 1 MB, or type any size from 5 KB upwards. It accepts PDFs up to 200 MB and images up to 50 MB.

Each file is compressed only as much as it needs. PDFs start at a sharp 150 DPI and the resolution is lowered step by step until the file fits; photos keep their dimensions where possible and are scaled down only when quality alone isn't enough. Files that are already under the limit are returned unchanged, and iPhone HEIC photos are converted to JPG so every form accepts them. 100 KB is the most common limit on online forms, so it is selected by default.

To send a Word or Excel document, save it as PDF first and then compress the PDF. If a long PDF can't reach a very small target, remove pages you don't need with Split PDF, or use Compress PDF for a quick size reduction without a fixed target. Our guide on compressing an image to 100 KB covers photos, signatures and passport pictures step by step.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress a file to 100 KB?

Add the file, keep 100 KB selected and press Compress. Each file is made smaller than 100 KB and the result shows the size before and after.

Which files can I compress?

PDFs and images: JPG, PNG, WebP and iPhone HEIC photos. For a Word or Excel document, save it as PDF first (File › Save as › PDF), then compress the PDF.

What is the most common size limit?

100 KB is the most common limit on job portals and online application forms. Passport-size photos are often limited to 50 KB and signatures to 20 KB; email attachments usually allow a few MB.

How small can a PDF get?

A one- or two-page scan usually fits under 100 KB. Long documents need more space per page to stay readable, so the tool tells you if a file could not reach the target and gives you the smallest readable version.

Will the compressed PDF still be readable?

Yes. The tool starts at high quality and lowers the resolution only as far as needed to fit. Pages are saved as images, so their text can't be selected afterwards.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. File Compressor runs entirely in your browser, so your files stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded, stored or seen by anyone else.

Is File Compressor free?

Yes. It is completely free, with no sign-up and no watermarks.
